This year promises to be different. Even Makar Sankranti, which has always fallen on January 14th (every year) is being celebrated on January 15th, this year. I have very fond memories associated with this festival for two reasons - 1) as a family, we always got together and had Chuda Dahi and items made of til; and 2) it coincided with the birthday of one of my grandfathers, Chote Nanaji who is one of the most endearing and affectionate people I know. I enjoyed the simplicity associated with celebrating this festival.
Today, as we are celebrating Makar Sankranti on January 15th, things seem different from last year. For one, the date is different. Second, in terms of my own personal journey, I sense evolution and growth. Moving into photography professionally has made me take decisions which are closer to who I am as a person. I feel in sync with the Universe. Almost as if, I've found my personal trajectory which is moving around the Sun, very much like the Earth orbits around the Sun.
I have the highest respect for the 'Sun'. Not only is it the only 'visible' provider of life force on this planet, it's also an endearing companion whose absence is sorely felt, especially on winter mornings. In fact, I wait for the Sun to make it's appearance in my office, as it gently peeps from the window and slowly envelops my entire workspace in soft golden light. It makes me feel grateful, very thankful for where I am now and energizes my being.
A bit about Makar Sankranti - (i) it marks the day on which the sun moves upwards on it's northward journey; and (ii) it's also known as the 'Harvest Festival' as the timing coincides with the completion of harvesting. Metaphorically speaking, the 'sun' also represents knowledge, spiritual light and wisdom. May this day and the 'Sun' remind us to move upwards in our own person journeys - to seek knowledge, wisdom and peace in all our endeavours.
Lastly, as with every harvesting season, it's the time to reap what we sow, to take stock of how the past year has been and to plan for the coming year. A big thank you to everyone for their support, love, likes and shares! Also, the timing seems appropriate to thank everyone who has gone out of their way to recommend me to their friends and family - I am working on a 'Referral' program and will be posting the details shortly! Do keep a watch out for the details! :)
