If you're wondering what this is about - well, it's about a special technique in photography called "Panning". It's a creative technique which allows you to freeze a moving subject and yet have a creative blur in the background. It takes some practice but can be great fun! The aim behind this is to share a fun trick/tip in photography with you - and you can post the results either as a comment to this Blog post or on my facebook page (once I share this post)!
Here are 5 easy tricks to get you started with Panning:
1. Shooting Mode: Set your shooting mode to 'Multiple Frames per second'
2. Shutter Speed: Set a slow shutter speed between 1/8th of a second to 1/15th of a second
3. Lens: Use a tele-photo lens for panning
4. Focus: Fix your focus at the correct distance for the subject
5. Special trick for panning: Start shooting ahead in time of your subject and move in the following manner:
(a) First hold your camera with two hands with your elbows tucked into your body and feet slightly apart.
(b) Swing/move around from the waist, keeping your upper body rigid and feet firmly rooted to the ground.
(c) Keep your movement smooth and steady and keep clicking and moving along with the subject.
