Having spent 3 weeks in Paris this summer, I fell in love with the vibe of this city. There was a sense of security on the streets of Paris. When I woke up this morning to reading the several 'FB' status messages that were being posted - 'Praying for Paris' - my heart skipped a beat and I instantly typed 'Paris attacks' on Google to witness the tragic developments over the last 24 hours.
Appalled by these successive terror attacks on Beirut, Baghdad and Paris, one wonders what the response to such attacks can be. The immediate response is grief and sadness, followed by compassion for those who are subject to these attacks. But the last and perhaps the most important response that all of us can have, as citizens of this global world is that of strength. Let there be no space for terror in our minds and hearts. It's easier said than done but the frequency and scale of these attacks makes me wonder if this is indeed, a war we all need to be a part of. Our forefathers fought for the freedom of our country - at that time, gaining freedom or independence from the foreign rule must have been their most important goal. Many lives were sacrificed but that did not deter them from following the path to freedom.
As we pray for the people of Paris, Beirut and Baghdad, we know for sure that we certainly cannot let terror occupy our minds, hearts or cities! How can we ensure that there is more peace in this world? An end to this senseless terror regime. A global response. Thoughts are welcome.
